For anyone who has not heard about this yet.... The Cameron High School Athletic Department is banding together to gather donations for the Joplin Relief Fund. They are accepting monetary donations as well as hygiene products for those in need. The squad has been asked to be a part of this as well. I contacted the girls earlier this week to see if they were interested or not.
I talked to almost everyone and the overwhelming response was that everyone wanted to contribute items for the Joplin Relief Efforts. So here is how we will do it. One of the things that they are asking for is Hygiene Packs. These are just packs of daily hygienic products for those who have lost their homes or cannot get to their homes.
The items that would go into ONE Hygiene Pack is:
1 fluoride toothpaste, 6 oz. or more
1 washcloth
1 toothbrush in original, unopened pkg.
1 bath-size bar of soap
1 deodorant
1 bottle skin lotion (11-14 oz.)
1 hand towel
1 bottle shampoo (11-14 oz.)
2 disposable razors
1 comb or brush
What I would like for us to do is get together as many complete packs as we can. Mr. Berry told me that he put together 1 complete pack at Wal-Mart and it cost around $14. So if you and your parents would like to put together 1 complete pack, that would be great. You could also ask other family members if they would like to donate too. We will welcome any donations we can get. If you want, you could go together with 1 or 2 other girls on the squad and split the costs, that's fine too. However you want to do this is fine. Just make sure that all together you have a completed pack.
Our deadline for this, is this coming Wednesday at 6pm (our next practice). Just bring everything you have managed to collect. Mr. Berry will then be taking everything from us and all of the other athletic teams down to Higginsville where it will then be distributed to those in need.
I am so proud of our team for wanting to participate in the Relief Efforts. I don't think any of us really realize what those in Joplin are going through right now. But maybe, by what we give, we can make life just a little bit easier for someone else.
Thank you so much to all of you!
GO DRAGONS!
